Once you have licensed your food business, it increases your knowledge about food services. It also makes your food business meet the basic requirements, which is the first step in either improving work policies or creating new ones.
Step 1: Documentation- this is the first step in which you fill ‘Form A’ and ‘Form B” and provide details about your business.
Step 2: Filing: this is where you file for your license by submitting ‘Form A’, along with the fee. The fee for this registration is Rs.100/-
Step 3: UARN: After filing for a license, a unique application reference number is generated, which helps you track the progress of your application and keep yourself updated.
Step 4: Registration Authority (RA) approval: Within 7 days of applying. The RA might grant or reject the application, with the reasons listed.

Every food business operator requires a license. The type of license either state or central is issued based on the scale of the business. If your food business or service is under any of the following categories procurement, manufacturing, distribution, processing, packaging, and storage, it requires a license. Every petty food business, with up to an annual turnover of 12 lakhs is also required to possess a license. To sum it up any individual dealing in the food sector and food substance requires the FSSAI license.
There are three types of licenses based on the size of the business:
This the basic type of license for small businesses with annual turnover up to 12 lacs. This is for food businesses with minimal capacity and which are in the first stages of their business. It can be later upgraded to a different license, depending on the growth of the FBO.
Any FBO making a profit greater than 12 lakhs and less than 20 Crores INR requires this type of licensing. An exception to this is caterers. Any catering service, need to compulsorily apply for this license, regardless of their turn over.
This is for large scales FBO’S or food firms. These firms have an annual turnover greater than 20 Crores. Any firm who supplies food or food services to the government offices and departments, require the central license.
Also, any firm dealing with food import and export trading services requires this license.
