Director Identification Number (DIN) is an 8-digit unique identification code which is allotted to every person willing to be a director or a pre-existing business owner by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. DIN provides the director community authorized access to file a return, fill an application, or access any business-related information from the government bodies as it maintains the director’s details in a database.

The MCA mandates the directors holding DIN or even the disqualified directors to submit their KYC details to the Central authorities via the DIR-3 form. Filing a DIR-3 requires no manual intervention and can be conducted completely online. It is a simple and easy procedure where one needs to avail of a DIR-3 application form through appropriate digital platforms and provide their DIN details. In further proceedings, relevant credentials have to be filled by the applicant and these details have to be certified by a Chartered Accountant or a Company Secretary for authentication purposes.

After successful form submission, the applicant shall obtain their SRN which is used for future correspondence with the MCA and a receipt of the approved form will be sent to the registered e-mail ID.

This whole procedure is to be carried out by an MCA specified date for each financial year. If any director fails to fill their DIR-3 form within the deadline then they are required to fill it again after paying a late fee of INR 5000.
